Garage

Although you might think that any one-car or two-car garage is going to be the same, this is not the case. A garage will typically range from 9 to 10 feet in width and 18 to 20 feet in length for each vehicle. A 9x18 one-car garage is going to look and feel substantially different than a 10x20 garage. The difference is 38 square feet, which is an enormous amount when you want to get the most storage space possible. So, you should always look at each garage individually to see how much room you will have.

Doors

The doors inside your home may be a surprise restriction that you did not think about until it becomes a problem. If you find it impossible to get a piece of furniture or large object through a door, it does not make sense to tear down part of the door frame just to get it through into the next room. A far better option is to thoroughly inspect all interior doors when looking at homes to determine their sizes. 28 to 32 inches is the norm, but you should prioritize homes on the high end to give you lots of maneuverability.

Attic

An attic will almost always have a substantial amount of space to store items. The only thing you need to remember is that it is not going to be a climate controlled area, so you should reserve it for items that are not sensitive to drastic temperature fluctuations or that are prone to damage in high humidity. The bare minimum that any attic entrance should be is 22 inches wide and 30 inches in length. It is ideal when you can find larger openings, and it is even better when stairs are installed that go into the attic. This will make it much easier to transport items to and from the attic, especially when they veer on the larger side.
